Miami - Brandis Seward achieved her American Dream.

"I walk upstairs and I'm like, I can't even believe it..." said Seward, who has been a teacher in South Florida for nearly 18 years.

After two decades, she and her husband finally purchased a place to call home through the Hometown Heroes Program.

Loan officer Mike Molina confirms it. "You can receive up to 5% in down payment assistance, up to $35,000," said Molina.

He explains that the Hometown Heroes Program offers homeowners the extra help they need with a loan at zero interest.

"Let's say your purchase price is $400,000. You'd receive $20,000 for a down payment. If you're doing an FHA loan, the minimum down payment is 3.5%. So with 5%, your full down payment is covered, along with some closing costs," Molina added.

To qualify, applicants must be first-time homeowners and full-time employees in Florida, working a minimum of 35 hours per week, with a minimum FICO score of 640.

Seward bought a townhouse in Pembroke Pines, where she has lived since January. The property boasts four bedrooms, two and a half baths, providing each of her two children with their own room. Grandma also has her own space.

When do you pay back the loan?

You can pay it back in five or ten years, whenever you decide.

Seward continually expresses her gratitude: "It's a dream come true. When Hometown Heroes came through and said they've got our back, it was like, really? And yes, they did have our back."

One hundred million dollars is available for the Hometown Heroes Program, effective July 1st. Applicants are encouraged to apply now, as funds may deplete quickly.
